Hammer Crusher Information Introduction
The hammer crusher is a crushing device that utilizes high-speed impact from hammers to break materials. It features a simple structure and a high reduction ratio. It is primarily used for the secondary and fine crushing of medium- and low-hardness brittle materials with a compressive strength not exceeding 200 MPa and a moisture content ≤15%. It is widely applied in industries such as cement, building materials, mining, chemicals, and metallurgy.

Features and Advantages of Hammer Crushers
High Reduction Ratio: Typically offers a single-stage reduction ratio of 10~25, which can reach around 40 under specific conditions. It can crush material into medium-fine particles (≤35mm), making it suitable for both secondary and fine crushing applications.
Simple Structure: Mainly composed of the rotor, hammers, and grate bars. Its simple structure results in a small footprint and facilitates easy inspection and maintenance.
Strong Adaptability: Efficiently crushes various medium- and low-hardness brittle materials, suitable for both secondary and fine crushing.
High Efficiency and Low Consumption: The impact crushing principle ensures high energy utilization and low unit energy consumption. It boasts prominent production capacity and economical operating costs.

Working Principle of Hammer Crushers
After material enters the crushing chamber from the top feed opening, it is violently impacted by multiple hammers driven by a high-speed rotating rotor, achieving preliminary breakage. The shattered material is then thrown at high speed against the impact liners inside the casing for secondary impact crushing. During rebound or falling, the crushed material undergoes further multiple inter-particle collisions with the hammers and other subsequent flying fragments, achieving repeated crushing. Finally, material meeting the size requirement is discharged through the gaps of the bottom grate bars. Oversized material is retained above the grate bars, continuing to be subjected to impact and grinding by the hammers until crushed into qualified particles for discharge.
Application Scenarios for Hammer Crushers
Raw Material → Jaw Crusher → Hammer Crusher → Vibrating Screen → Crushed Material → Raymond Mill
In Raymond mill grinding circuits, the hammer crusher process is simple with lower investment costs. However, it is only suitable for the secondary crushing of medium- and low-hardness, low-corrosivity, dry brittle materials such as soft limestone, gypsum, coal, and chalk. Once the material hardness increases slightly, becomes more corrosive, or has high moisture content, it accelerates the wear of hammers and grate bars. This leads to increased fluctuation in discharge size and unstable particle shape, affecting grinding efficiency. Impact crushers are typically preferred for secondary crushing.

Frequently Asked Questions about Hammer Crushers
What is the difference between a Hammer Crusher and an Impact Crusher?
Hammer Crusher: Features a simpler structure and relatively lower price. It crushes material via high-speed impact from hammers, with discharge size controlled by grate bars. It is not well-suited for materials with high moisture or hardness. The product particle shape (flaky content) is typically inferior to that of an impact crusher.
Impact Crusher: Produces superior product shape, mostly cubic with very low flaky content. It utilizes impact between a high-speed rotor and impact plates for crushing, with discharge size controlled by adjusting the impact plate gap, making it less prone to blockage. It is generally used for secondary crushing in Raymond mill circuits and can handle various medium- and low-hardness materials.
Can a Hammer Crusher achieve primary crushing in one stage?
A hammer crusher can achieve primary crushing of medium- and low-hardness brittle materials in one stage. However, single-stage crushing results in higher wear and poorer product particle shape. Multi-stage crushing processes are typically preferred.
How does a Hammer Crusher handle sticky or wet materials?
Standard hammer crushers are prone to clogging when processing materials with high moisture or viscosity. It is necessary to dry or dewater the material before crushing and to use specially designed anti-clogging grate bars.
